We found Tamagawa more accidentally for a late lunch. So happy we stopped here. The food was amazing - great sashimi and grilled mackerel. But the absolute highlight were the grilled scallops. We were so grateful to the staff who single-handedly managed the restaurant and prepared the fabulous food.

Such an insult to serve this Ramen it consisted of one very small slice of pork and a small crab piece the size of a 20cent. It was just noodles and the price was $17.80. Not good value definitely would not recommend this restaurant. Very … More

Relaxed dining, friendly service, food always delicious and freshly prepared. Very popular with locals for eat in or take away. My favourites are the Queenscliff set for lunch, Gyoza, Rainbow Rolls, Tempura, Miso Ramen or the tasty Agedashi Tofu. Some great draught beers on tap or try the Choya plum liqueur after your meal!

I have been walking past here for years and finally stopped in for lunch with my son. I can’t believe it took me so long to stop in, this place is amazing! I’ve been twice now and tried a lunch special bento and the salmon lovers meal, both were superb with lots of different things to try and plenty of food in a serving, my boy gets the kids meal in the train which he loves too. Owners are super lovely and work so hard. Always seems busy , highly recommended!

Have been coming to this restaurant for many years, each time coming for dinner and the majority of the time dining in. I've never had a bad experience and the food is always delicious. There are some times where the food is slightly slow in coming out, but nothing adverse and generally if the place is busy. Staff are always happy to make additional space for you if the tables are full (such as setting up additional tables) and the menu has good variety.

Really love every bits of the food that they serve here. Taste really authentic, so many different variety. The atmosphere is really cute. Don’t judge by the design or the restaurant service scape, it’s more about the taste of the food really. Everything is top notch. Well done👍 .

Such a great little Japanese restaurant. Delicious, authentic Japanese dishes, some rotating specials, fantastic staff, and very reasonable prices. Also Japanese beer and sake, or byo. We left feeling over-full, with 1 alcoholic drink each and it was under $60/head! This place has been her for over 20 years, and there are a lot of very good reasons why.

Level entrance from the street, but the restaurant is very cramped and probably would not accommodate a large WC. Seating outside would be suitable if the weather was nice.

3.5 stars out of 5
Things I liked
- The ramen was authentic and 5/5
- Staff was friendly
- The variety of food
- Decor
The things I disliked
- hygiene was an issue
- Food was slow
- Menu wasn’t updated online $16 for ramen actually $20 in store
- an extra egg cost $3.80
The best part of this place is the authentic Japanese food that isn’t just sushi.
My honest opinion is they may have started strong but adopted a very “casual western” attitude to service and cleanliness.
The food is actually good but they’ve dropped their standards in certain areas.
This restaurant wouldn’t probably do as well competing with others similar in Japan.
Genuine suggestions :
1. hire another younger worker who just cleans and takes orders. Or reduce workload on just the one lovely waitress.
2. Clean tables quickly. Reduce addons like egg.
3. Update menu online.
Would I come back? Yes
